Member for Bega Andrew Constance has advised that the Cobargo Folk Festival will receive $10,000 NSW Government funding under the 2016 Regional Flagship Events Program, which aims to increase visitation to the fabulous festivals of regional NSW.

The Regional Flagship Events program provides regional events with support for marketing and advertising.

Mr Constance said the Cobargo Folk Festival will receive $10,000 for their three day acoustic music festival presented in the heritage listed village of Cobargo.

“The Festival's program of music, dance and performance arts celebrates its unique location in the historic 19th century heritage-listed village of Cobargo, between Gulaga and Mumbulla Mountains, sites of great cultural significance to the indigenous Yuin people of the region.

“In 2016, the festival will mark its 21st anniversary, locals and visitors to the region can expect to see some 70 folk, country blues, bluegrass and roots acts from Australia and overseas, across seven stages.

“Events such as this play an important role in our local economy, helping to attract people to our beautiful area and also showcasing what is unique about our region,” he said.

Mr Constance added, “I look forward to welcoming visitors to the area in February next year, where I am sure we will provide a memorable experience and a reason for visitors to plan a return trip again soon.”

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres announced that 36 events and festivals across the State will receive funding from the 2016 Regional Flagship Events Program, which is administered by Destination NSW.

“Regional NSW welcomed more than 53 million international and domestic visitors who spent over $14 billion just last financial year,” Mr Ayres said.

“Positioning NSW as Australia’s number one tourism and events destination is one of the NSW Government’s key priorities and the Regional Flagship Events Program helps us to achieve this by creating additional exposure for our fantastic State.”
