FUNDING BOOST FOR NAROOMA SURF CLUB
Member for Bega Andrew Constance has today announced $86,250 in NSW Government funding for Narooma Surf Lifesaving Club as part of the 2017/18 Surf Club Facility Program.
Mr Constance said the funding has been provided to enable construction of a storage facility for 24Hr Emergency Rescue Vessels & Equipment at the Surf Club.
“All our Surf Life Saving clubs do immensely important work, saving lives and providing opportunities for people of all ages to get fit and healthy, so I am pleased to see Narooma Surf Lifesaving Club receive this funding.
“The aim of this program is to increase the availability, standard and quality of surf lifesaving clubs in NSW for the benefit of their members and the wider community,” Mr Constance said.
“The NSW Government wants to make the work of life savers as easy as possible – we can’t control the water but we can improve facilities like this to ensure they have better access to lifesaving equipment.”
“It is a great pleasure to able to advocate on behalf of our community and to see results like this for Narooma residents and our many visitors,” Mr Constance added.
Mr Ben Bate, Narooma Surf Lifesaving Club President said this is fantastic news for the Narooma Surf Club.
“We have seen such huge growth in the club in the last five years and were running desperately short of room.
“Our aim will be to have the storage facility completed in early 2018 and it will house all our emergency response equipment,” Mr Bate said.
“Mr Constance has been very encouraging and kept in contact while we went through the approval process with the Eurobodalla Shire Council and State Government, to now be able to move ahead with construction thanks to this grant is a great relief.
On behalf of all our members I would like to acknowledge and thank Mr Constance, who has always been a great supporter and shown a strong interest in surf lifesaving here on the south coast,” said Mr Bate.
