NEXT STEP FOR EDEN WAVE ATTENUATOR

Thursday, 16 November 2017

The NSW Government has called for Expressions of Interest (EOI) to design and construct a wave attenuator in Snug Cove as part of the $10 million Eden Safe Harbour Project.

Member for Bega, Andrew Constance, said the structure would help protect the Port of Eden from dangerous wind and wave conditions.

“A wave attenuator will calm wave activity in the cove, providing a safer harbour for local and visiting vessels and improve the protection of existing maritime infrastructure within Snug Cove,” Mr Constance said.

“Providing a safer harbour will enhance Eden’s reputation as a safe boating destination which will stimulate local investment in the maritime and tourism sectors.

“I have been knocking on doors continuously to get this project started, and pleasingly we are now moving in the right direction to ensure Snug Cove will be a safe harbour.

“I want to see this project completed alongside and compliment the Wharf extension bringing the vitality back to Eden, which is fast becoming a first class tourist destination.

“This will be a game changer for Eden Port and will open up new opportunities on and off the water.

“Paul Toole has been supportive and I thank him for his recent visit to the port and seeing firsthand what this means for our region,” Mr Constance said.

EOI applicants must demonstrate the proposed wave attenuator can satisfy the technical requirements of the project.

Minister for Lands and Forestry Paul Toole said the NSW Government is considering both fixed and floating wave attenuators to ensure the best solution for the Eden community.

“This is a very important project for the local community so it’s important we get it right. I encourage any interested groups to express their interest online,” Mr Toole said.
