REPLACEMENT BATEMANS BAY BRIDGE MOVES FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY

Sunday, 19 November 2017

The replacement Batemans Bay Bridge is another step closer to becoming a reality, with three companies shortlisted to tender for the design and construction contract.

Member for Bega Andrew Constance said work on the Batemans Bay Bridge replacement is moving ahead quickly with three contractors shortlisted to progress the project from planning and concept stage by submitting a tender to design and build the new bridge.

“Last year we began planning the replacement bridge and today we can announce that we are another step closer to starting the build,” Mr Constance said.

“CPB Contractors, John Holland Group and Seymour Whyte Constructions have been selected to submit tenders to design and carry out this work.

“Interested members of the community are invited to provide feedback on the design concept for the replacement bridge currently open for review and feedback. All community commentary on the design and location of the replacement bridge and its environmental assessment is being carefully considered and will be used to inform the final bridge design.

“A community information session will be held from 8am to 1pm today, Sunday 19 November on the Clyde River foreshore and I look forward to hearing the community views.

“I will be there from 10am until 11am and invite residents to come down and have a chat about this fantastic project and what it will mean for our region,” Mr Constance said.

“Two further information sessions will be held at Village Plaza on Thursday 23 November from 3pm to 5pm and at Batemans Bay Community Centre on Saturday 25 November between 10am and 2pm.”

Feedback on the design concept and environmental assessment can also be provided until Friday 8 December and also online at www.rms.nsw.gov.au/batemansbaybridge.

The design and construct contract for the bridge is expected to be awarded mid next year, with major work to start early in 2019. The new bridge is planned to be opened to traffic in 2021.

The replacement Batemans Bay Bridge is funded by a $300 million investment by the NSW Government, which includes replacing the Nelligen Bridge on the Clyde River.
